YOUR AUDITION
Thanks for registering for an audition with us!
This page includes all the information you’ll need to prepare for your audition, as well as the details for scheduling your audition time.
STEP 1: Prepare / STEP 2: Plan / STEP 3: Click the button to book your Audition Time!
We look forward to meeting you soon!
STEP 1: PREPARE
Set Song
First up, we would like you to prepare and sing the first verse of the song Amazing Grace from memory. This is your opportunity to show us 'you', so give it everything, and feel free to give it your own personal stylisation!
Vocal Exercises
We'll also get you to try a few vocal exercises so we can hear your vocal range and ability. This will include some pop a cappella exercises, which will be a bit different to what you're probably used to - just be ready to go with it!
Musicianship exercises
We'll finish with some aural exercises and basic sight-reading, since our Squads use scored music for learning. There is no set preparation you’ll need to do for this portion of the audition.
In total your audition will take between 10 -15 minutes. To assist us in the selection process all auditions will be videoed.
AUDITION OUTCOMES:
December auditionees will receive a post-audition email within 1-2 weeks, advising you of the next step. January auditionees will hear from us within 2-3 days of your audition. Once individual auditions are concluded, those who are moving forward in the Squad / Crew Plus selection process will be invited to participate in a Group Call Back audition (Sat 1st Feb, afternoon), following which we will be in touch within 48hrs to confirm which ensemble you will be part of.
When we hold auditions, we consider each candidate’s suitability for all the classes and groups within our programme. When we provide your audition outcome, we will let you know which group we are able to offer you a place within.
IMPORTANT! For those whose Squad / Crew Plus auditions are successful, please be aware that there are some compulsory activities that you’ll need to be available for (the full list will be provided to you upon offer of a place in the ensemble). To assist with diary planning, please note that in Term 1 this includes attendance at our Academy Summer Bootcamp, 10am - 4pm on Sat 22nd Feb (along with a Winter Bootcamp in July).
STEP 2: PLAN
SQUADS are our professional tier, performance-focused ensembles. As such, there are a number of performances that Squad-members are required to participate in throughout the year that they are appointed to their Squad.
Our Squad performance programme consists of both Academy performances / events, as well as external events or projects that we are booked for, most of which are offered on an ‘as available’ basis.
CREW PLUS is our Pop A Cappella development space, where we focus on developing a set group of vocalists into a specialised and performance-ready Pop A Cappella ensemble, also with strong performance outcomes as a focus.
The Crew Plus performance programme is focused on preparing a number of items for our two main Academy shows (July / Dec), and from time to time, involvement in Academy projects (music videos / recording projects etc).
COMPULSORY AVAILABILITY:
The dates listed below are considered compulsory for both Squad and Crew Plus members (unless indicated), and as such, are expected to take priority over other events / performances / shows, noting that all auditioned groups have a minimum 80% attendance requirement per term in order to retain their place in the Squad / Crew.
Please take a moment check your availability to consider whether you are able to make the commitment required to be a part of our Squad programme. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions regarding the details below.
